Course Description: The Dental Assistant Refresher course is eighty hours long, taught days, evenings, or weekends. The Dental Assistant Refresher is a course designed for current or past dental assistants who would like to refresh their skills, including radiography and infection control. Similar to our basic program, without the clinical lab. This course would prepare the student for state exams in radiography and infection control.

Pre-Requisite: Proof of being a dental assistant and a letter of recommendation from a dentist is needed.

COURSES

DAR01 - Terminology
Introduction to dental terms that will be used in general dentistry. The tooth numbering system, dental and oral anatomy, instrument identification and nomenclature, as well as, equipment operation.
DAR02 - Preventative Dentistry
Procedures, techniques and treatments used in the prevention of dental disease. Discussion of plaque and periodontal disease, knowledge of diet, fluoride use and oral hygiene.
DAR03 - Radiography Theory
X-ray theory and methods, developing and exposure methods, darkroom procedures, and x-ray safety procedures.
DAR04 - Lab Theory
The proper use of equipment, impression materials, model-making, sterilization techniques, and universal precautions.
DAR05 - Reception
Phone, appointment, and filing techniques. Introduction to computer accounting and billing procedures.
DAR06 - 4-Handed Concepts
Chair-side dental assisting, transfer methods, tub and tray systems, reviewing the procedures required in operative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, orthodontics, crown and bridge and periodontology.
